Walking Tour #7: Mercat de La Concepció

It's a shame not to use a well stocked and spacious kitchen. So when you stay at Bailèn 41, you need to head on out to the best market in the neighborhood: Mercat de la Concepció, a modernista beauty from 1888 full of fresh vegetables and fruits, meats, fish and seafood of all kinds, chicken and rabbit, deli items, bread, pasta and sauce, olives, wine, even flowers!

The walk is a short nine minutes, up Bailèn, left on Aragó. And don't forget to take the handy grocery trolley, supplied at the apartment for your use. The trolley makes getting everything back home simple and easy.

La Concepció is normally open from 8 am to 8 pm Tuesday through Friday and from 8 am to 3 pm Monday and Saturday. From mid-July to the end of August, most stalls close at 3 pm.

However, the flower stalls — located on the opposite end of the market, on Valencia — are open 24 hours a day, year-round, just in case.
